Vanilla Buttercream Icing

Wednesday, June 03, 2015

This buttercream icing is amazing. It goes so well with chocolate cake or cupcakes and provides a deliciously creamy break between bites of chocolate cake. It tastes a bit like ice-cream as well which makes it even better!

Ingredients:
200g Real Butter, at room temperature
2 tsps vanilla extract (not essence)
500g Icing Sugar, sifted
100ml Full Fat Milk

Method:
1. Beat together the butter and vanilla extract for 1 minute.
2. While the mixer is still going, slow add (bit by bit) the sifted icing sugar.
3. Once combined add 100ml milk and mix again. If the mixture seems too thick add a tbsp of milk and mix again.
4. If you want to, add half a tsp of food colouring to give the icing a colour of your choice.
5. Pipe out the buttercream onto cupcakes using a star nozzle to create one of the below designs. Alternatively, spread onto the centre, top and sides of a 10 inch cake.
